Defining Your 2026 Objectives

If you're reading this and thinking, "Wait, we're already a week into January," you aren't alone. I'll be the first to admit: I'm a little behind on this month's blog. But there's a good reason for the delay. I've spent the last few days exactly where I belong, working. I've been deep in the trenches with buyers just like you, scouting properties and mapping out strategic moves for the year ahead. More importantly, I've been finalizing my own goals for 2026 to ensure that my service to our Tulsa Veteran community is sharper and more effective than ever.

As a veteran, first responder, or patriot, you know that a delayed start is fine—as long as the mission is clear. Here is how we are going to attack your homeownership goals this January.

  1. Establish Financial Goal

Before you begin exploring floor plans, we need to secure and establish the best financial path for you.

  •  If you are a veteran, we need to pull your Certificate of Eligibility (COE) now. Don't wait until you find the perfect house to realize your paperwork isn't in order.
  •  January is the month to pay down the expenses on your credit cards. A lean debt profile gives you more tactical advantages when it's time to review your mortgage rate.
  1. The 2026 Tulsa Outlook

2026 is a massive year for city:  With the Route 66 Centennial bringing global eyes to Tulsa, our local market is moving fast.

  • Strategic Location: For those of you on shift work or on-call, your "home base" needs to be strategically located. This month, let's identify neighborhoods that offer the shortest response times to the station or hospital while still providing the quiet "fortress" your family deserves.
  • Property Value Potential: With the influx of traffic and tourism hitting Tulsa this year, buying in the right corridor now could mean significant equity growth by the time the Centennial celebrations are in full swing.
  1. Maintenance Mission: Protecting the Post

Even if you aren't ready to sell yet, a Patriot takes care of their equipment. Oklahoma winters don't care about your schedule.

  • The "No-Freeze" Protocol: Check your exterior faucet covers and ensure your pipes are insulated.
  • Air Superiority: Change your HVAC filters. A clean system saves you money on utilities—money that is better served in your "New Home" fund.
  • Safety First: As a protector, ensure your home's smoke and carbon monoxide detectors are tested and fresh.

The Mission Starts Now

I've spent the start of this year focused on the goals that matter: helping those who serve our country and our community find a place to plant their flag. If you've been busy working your own mission and haven't started your home search yet, don't worry—you aren't behind. You're right on time.

Would you like me to send you a specialized "2026 Goal Tracker" PDF that you can use to prep your finances for a home purchase this spring?
